this is the cover for Circa Survive’s new CD titled “Blue Sky Noise”.
this is my review of it so far:
so far i really like that this sounds differently from ‘Juturna’ and ‘On Letting Go’. ‘Juturna’ is my favorite Circa Survive CD and i am obsessed with the way it sounds. i love that i’m still discovering things that i like about it and it is never repetitive in my life. ‘On Letting Go’ sounds a lot like ‘Juturna’ so i never fully appreciated it as a separate CD. i love it a lot, but i overlook it.
‘Blue Sky Noise’ sounds nothing like ‘Juturna’ in all of the good ways. its still in the style of Circa Survive and it is noticeably their music, but its a new sound from them that i have not experienced. so far, i love it.
anthony green’s voice makes me swoon. its treated like an instrument in the soundscape of Circa’s music; he is not the overbearing lead singer, he is fluid instrument in the band, that is a quality that separates CS from the rest of the pack. CS is full of amazing musicians, period. the things that colin frangicetto does with a guitar are kinda amazing. i hardly ever hear other guitarists create so many beautiful un-guitar sounding rifts. the band plays so well together, none of them are fighting to be heard and they gel together very well.
so far, my favorite tracks are “Compendium”, “Dyed in the Wool”, and “Imaginary Enemy”. my least favorite is “Get Out”, probably because i generally dislike singles that bands put out at first.
my favorite thing about Circa Survive is that i always discover something new in a song i have listened to hundreds of times. my favorite CS songs are always changing because i’m constantly rediscovering songs that i love. i fall in love with their music every time i listen to them.
i’m pretty sure that i’ll be listening to ‘Blue Sky Noise’ exclusively for a while, which means that i’ll probably be ignoring the new Broken Social Scene CD.
i may decide that this CD is my favorite later on or i may decide that i hate it.
i doubt the latter will occur because quite honestly, Circa Survive can do no wrong in my eyes.
